The Beet Goes On!
Saturday night, these fabulous female farmers of Mendocino County entered the Sip Some Soup competition!
Sip Some Soup is the major annual fundraiser for Willits Daily Bread, which offers a hot dinner Monday through Thursday at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall. What happens at this unique Willits fundraising event is that attendees sample each soup in the competition, and then vote for their favorites. First-, second- and third-place prizes are awarded for soups, and there’s a “Best Decorated Table” prize, too. The event was held at the Willits Community Center (City Hall) on Commercial Street, from 5:30 until 7 pm.
Our high spirited female farmers stole the show with the theme; “The Beet Goes On”, inspired from “Hairspray the Musical“. They featured a flavorful and earthy beet ginger soup. Complete with full costumes, a hairspray can of olive oil, and a song and dance ensemble. Their creativity and pizzazz won them the ‘Best Table Decoration‘ award!
