March 23, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$25Due to low community interest in this weekend’s workshop we will be rescheduling this compost session for the fall. Make sure to watch our website and/or facebook page for info on the wide range of workshops we have available this year. Join us this year to deepen your knowledge and skills in the science, art and business of sustainable food production. The future of sustainable agriculture in our region depends on adaptive and creative producers who are constantly learning. Register today for hands-on workshops on specific topics throughout the year and taught by knowledgeable practitioners in our county. Learn more at www.school-of-adaptive-agriculture.org/extension.
In this hands-on workshop, Keith and Jes will demonstrate how to build a compost pile. They will demonstrate techniques and tools that make the process efficient and successful. They will also explore strategies for evaluating compost piles during the different stages of the decomposition process.
Buttercup Compost Lab is located on the campus of the School of Adaptive Agriculture on Ridgewood Ranch. Buttercup Compost Lab is an education space where Keith and Jes experiment with different compost and fertility management techniques for the farm. Their immediate goal is to compost all waste materials produced by the farm and close the loop of fertility. Their ultimate goal is to eliminate the need for any imported nutrients on the farm. As part of the lab they plan to have a small demonstration garden where they can observe first hand how these fertility practices affect plant growth.
