Learn the art and science of herbal medicine making! This comprehensive hands-on course will cover all the basics of handcrafted herbalism. Students will go home with the skill and confidence necessary to make their own herbal products for the home or small business.

This comprehensive hands-on course will cover all the basics of handcrafted herbalism. Students will go home with the skill and confidence necessary to make their own herbal products for the home or small business. Each week will build upon the next, and students will make and take home their own:

– Herbal Tinctures

– Infused Herbal Oils & Salves

– Medicated Creams

– Cough Syrups

This course will also cover proper extraction methods, choosing the appropriate solvent for the medicine you are making, using fresh versus dry plant extracts, labeling, and correct methods for drying and storing herbs. Some experience working with herbs is helpful, but not required. All materials needed are included in cost of course.

February 12, Introduction: Discussion of the types of herbal medicines and extracts, and when they are appropriate to use. Students will begin the process of making a tincture and an infused oil. We will cover a plant monograph for each herb used in our medicine making.

February 19, Students will make a cough syrup and an herbal salve. We will cover a plant monograph for each herb used in our medicine making.

February 26, Students will make a medicated herbal cream. We will finish the process of tincture making that was started during the first class. Students will bottle and label all products made in the course. We will cover a plant monograph for each herb used in our medicine making.
