Free Technical Workshop for Local Farmers

September 1, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Free

Hoop houses? Cover cropping? Cross fencing for livestock? Micro-irrigation? Moisture detectors? Insectory Hedgerows? Do you think your farm or ranch could benefit from these practices? Did you know that farmers and ranchers who use sustainable practices can access funding and technical assistance for infrastructure through The National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)?

In this afternoon workshop, an introduction to NRCS’ Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) will be followed by a hands-on soil health assessment and a tour of the SAA’s farm where a hoop house was built through this program. Join us at Ridgewood Ranch for an afternoon of information on how to access support for resource conservation on your farm or ranch.

SPACE IS LIMITED. PLEASE RSVP TO

UPDATE
Since Friday promises to be quite a hot day we will be adjusting our day to be more inside than we first planned to take advantage of the access to air conditioning we have access to. We will have a projector and plenty of pictures of all the projects we’re talking about. Then we’ll go outside when it is a tad cooler to the community orchard to conduct a soil assessment.

We recommend coming prepared for the heat – so hat, water bottle (you can refill it at the community dining hall), good- closed toe shoes for walking.

DIRECTIONS
16200 North HWY 101,
Willits, CA 95490

(be careful of being too dependent on google maps – it has gotten many a person lost once they’ve turned off the highway)

Sixteen miles North of Ukiah, look for the signs indicating RV Park with a left hand turn lane at mile marker 39.4. Turn left onto the driveway with a sign for Golden Rule RV Park and Ridgweood Ranch.

After Exiting Hwy 101 details: Cross the cattle guard and begin winding down the driveway. At the next cattle guard, turn right at the signs for School of Adaptive Agriculture, La Vida Charter School, and Seabiscuit Heritage Foundation. At the bottom of the hill, continue straight through the “WHOA” signs and turn into the parking lot on your right. The building with the brick facing is the Ranch’s community dinning room and will host our afternoon workshop.
